August Illea and Georgia Whitaker are Northern rebels. They are sometimes considered as runaways, and therefore Eights. These are either the Northern or the Southern rebels. Marlee and Carter then became Sixes, and when Maxon became king the returned to being Twos. People who are traitors to the crown are also Eights. These people were often left in streets to beg. They include people who are homeless, addicts, runaways, illegitimates, and people who are mentally and physically unwell. These people are known as the “Untouchables”. When America was signing up for the selection she saw a girl who she thought was a Seven, because her boots were muddy, she had dust on her clothes and she was still in hr work clothes. Sevens are similar to Sixes, but they usually have outside jobs.

These are the people who are manual labourers ( construction workers, farm hands, pool cleaners, gardeners, gutter cleaners, trash collectors. Prior to becoming a guard and a two, Aspen was a Six. Silvia and Sylvan were also possibly Sixes. In the selection series: Lucy, Mary, Anne, Paige and Mitsy are Sixes. They are people who are workers ( housekeepers, secretaries, waiters, cooks, seamstresses, store clerks, cooks and drivers. Photographers are Fives, so Maxon and America would have been fives together.
In the third book ‘The One’, Maxon tells America that if he wasn’t a prince he would be a photographer. America was originally a five, before the selection along with her family: Shalom, Magda, May, Kota, Gerad). Those people who are artists and performers ( singers, classical musicians, photographers, dancers, circus performers, stage actors). Prior to being in the selection and becoming a Queen, Queen Amberly was also a Four. Elise was also a Four even though her parents are owners of many luxurious hotels. Emmica, Natalia, Anna and Marlee were all Fours before the selection.

In the selection series Kenna (America’s older sister) and her husband are Fours, as they are factory workers. These are the people who are involved in business: real estate agents, chefs,property and business owners, jewellers, insurance brokers, farmers and construction managers. Kriss was originally a Three, and America became one when she entered the Selection. Girls who entered the Selection ( if they were not a two or already a three) became a Three automatically. Those who are Threes include people who are: Teachers, philosophers, inventors, doctors, scientists, psychologists, dentists, librarians,engineers, lawyers, writers,film directors, music producers, architects. Also, when Lucy married Aspen, she became Two. When Maxon and America became King and Queen, Marlee and Carter became Twos again. In secret Maxon arranged for them to get married and to work at the palace, and they became Sixes. However, when Carter Woodwork was caught with Marlee Tames (one of the Elite) they were canned and became eights. Also, Aspen, Officer Avery, Officer Markson, Carter Woodwork ( being guards at the palace) were Twos. In the selection series Celeste ( being a model) is a Two.
The people who are Twos are either: celebrities (singers,athletes, actors, actresses,models), politicians, guards, firefighters and policeman. Being a One means being in a position of power and respect. Maxon and America’s children become Ones as well. When Maxon becomes king and marries America, America becomes the queen and a One, along with her family. In the selection series, King Clarckson, Queen Amberly, Prince Maxon Shreave and Adele ( Queen Amberly’s sister) are ones. Those who are of royalty or a re religious figures belong to this caste. The One’s are the highest group in the Illea caste system. Here’s an outline of the castes in Illea: Eight being the lowest and One being the highest.
